A great many questions have been asked about Shakespeare’s sonnets. Did he write them? Were he and the young man of the sonnets lovers? Were the sonnets meant to be private and was Shakespeare embarrassed by their publication?
These questions are for scholars to ponder. For me, the answers are unimportant. What is important is that we have the sonnets. What a wonderful gift to the world they have been. Poems of astounding beauty about issues and emotions that are as pertinent today as they were in Shakespeare’s time.
